The Charter and Pastors

The People of Tom’s Creek Community met for Sunday school for several years in what had once been a schoolhouse located on the lower section of what is now the church cemetery. Interest in starting a church arose and, on Friday, October 17, 1913, a meeting was called for this purpose. There were seven (7) pastors from the Eastanollee, Mullins Ford, Lavonia and Bowersville area present. Three of the pastors were appointed as a committee to examine the 76 letters presented for membership. Those presented were: Liberty 1, Broad River 22, Eastanollee 3, New Hope 1, Liberty Hill 34, Clarks Creek 10, Pleasant Hill 1, and Providence 1. The Church Covenant and the Articles of Faith were read and unanimously adopted. The new church was pronounced TOM’S CREEK MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH and was charged to emphasize a daily walk, family worship, church worship, keeping the house of worship, maintenance of church worship, and the Great Commission. Seven deacons were selected: J.V. Jordan, A.J. Watson, E.K. Matthews, W.L. Collins, J.I. Adams, A.L. Herron, and E.L. Matthews.
